Can't stop the money leak :(

December 2nd, 2009 at 03:42 am

So on top of the $800 in car repairs, $400 in medical bills, $100 in dental bills (estimated), and Christmas shopping.......now our hottub stoppped working and will cost at least $600 to fix. Frown Bummed. If we don't fix it now it would freeze and be completely ruined....so I guess we need to come up with that money too now. Whine whine whine......hoping 2010 will bring a few less unexpected bills.

Ugh! I feel your pain. We are getting our wood burning stove cleaned on Friday, hoping to avoid having to buy a new one.

I dont have a hot tub so this might be a stupid question.

But cant you drain it then move it somewhere where it will not freeze (heated garage or heated storage unit) so you dont have to come up with $600 to fix it right now?

Do you use the hot tub alot? Is it worth fixing or will you be spending money to fix something you hardly use?

I think some of these repairs that you have to pay now should have been allocated for. Didn't you know about the car and health? For the hot tub, couldn't you tell that after X amount of years, things would need replaced?
Not trying to harp on you, but there should have been a few bucks to use on it from a budget envelope.

HELPmeFriend - No we did not know that one of us would develop a serious health condition, nor did we anticipate $800 in one month for car repairs. And no I am not any kind of hot tub expert, the hot tub came with the house, so we did not know how old it was or anything about hot tub maintance that may need to be done on it. We will be able to cover everything because we have about $1000 a month in disposable income that goes towards the mortgage principle, savings, and fun money each month. If we did not have enough we have an EF as well. I was just venting that it is unfortunate that everything seems to be piling up on top of each other right now.
CouponAddict - Yes we use the hot tub a lot. We are very frugal and that is one of our main sources of entertainment. We live in the Midwest and it is wonderful to have a hot tub in the winter! Smile
