Adjusted Retirement Contributions for 2010

December 25th, 2009 at 06:19 pm

My employer cut the employer match for 401K from 50% up to 6% to 50% up to 3% for 2010. So I am cutting my contribution from 6% to 3% and moving the 3% difference to my ROTH IRA. Yesterday was my last payday of 2010, and it was very slow at work so I got the 401K updated. Then I went to my ING and changed my autodeposit from $70 every 2 weeks to $100 every 2 weeks. All ready to go for 2010!

can you manage a few more bucks to your Roth? you won't quite be investing 3% because the money is now after tax whilst your 401K money was before tax. therefore you are essentially contributing less, unless you calculated that 3% on gross income. i'm glad you kept your retirement money flowing into some sort of retirement vehicle! thumbs up!

Sadly the amount going into the ROTH is going to be stretch already. Since it is changing from pre-tax money to post-tax money the amount of my paycheck will already be less going into my pocket. I will see how this goes and if we can manage stick some more in. Thanks for the advise!
