Hit a deer :(

August 8th, 2018 at 05:24 pm

When MO and I were driving home from softball on Monday night we hit a deer on the highway. MO was driving (thankfully) and two deer ran onto the highway right in front of the Jeep. There was also a vehicle passing us on the left lane at the same time, so hitting the deer was the best option over hitting the other vehicle or going into the ditch and possibly rolling the Jeep. Luckily MO was able to hit the breaks and lessen the blow to us, so it wasn't a super severe impact in the car, we and our 2 dogs who were also in the vehicle are all totally fine. The deer was not Frown and our Jeep is probably totaled. MO contacted insurance and our roadside assistance towed for free to a local bodyshop. We should find out in the next few days if it is a total loss or not, but we are thinking it will probably be totaled out. It's too bad as that was our nicest and most reliable vehicle. But everyone is safe and that is all that matters!

Ouch, glad no one was seriously injured. Smacking into a deer can be pretty bad. I hope you took photos or video of the dead deer. Insurance companies are notorious for not believing you hit a deer, even in heavy dear country.

Grateful you and DH were not injured. These collisions are very common here. We have deer living in the green belt behind our complex and while it's great to watch them frolic outside from a 4th floor window window, it wasn't much fun when one suddenly appeared and seriously reared up and knocked husband as he walked out of the complex.

The government has just released a herd of buffalo in the wild in our area and we're all very worried about having them abruptly wander onto the highway.

Thanks everyone for your concern, it could have been much worse, so we are very grateful that everyone was ok!

Snafu - Oh my! I cannot image what kind of destruction hitting a buffo would cause!

Oh no! That's one of my constant nagging anxiety issues--especially when we drove across MN and up the North Shore.

How horrible! I hit a deer a few years ago -- a herd of them ran across the highway. Missed one, nailed the second. They should have totaled my vehicle, but they didn't and as a result, we wound up having lots of different things go wrong after the repairs. Glad you and MO and the dogs are OK.

So glad that nobody was seriously hurt! I live in the city, but on the way home one afternoon a small deer ran out in front of me. I was far enough back that I didn't hit it, but I avoid taking that particular road when it's dark now.
