August - I WILL track my spending this month!!

August 1st, 2014 at 02:59 pm

I was supposed to track my spending the last 2 months to see how I would be doing budget wise on one income. It was a major fail on my part, just too much going on and not motivated to do it. So here we go, August One, time to do it!

At this time I am not implementing any major changes or concerns, just watching/reducing spending in general is the goal.

I am out of town at least 3 weekends this month so that will make things difficult, but since I know that ahead of time, I will just make sure I am spending less during the week so I have some extra allowance for the weekends. But other then fuel, there shouldn't be too many expenses for me. BF isn't fond of me paying for much of anything even when I try to he usually says no, so most of my food/lodging/drinks will probably be covered as well.
Plus I can pack snacks and drinks to lower the out of town costs as well.

Do you have a CVS (rummage sale) budget?

track spending...can you commit to using an old cheque register to actually write down each spend? If your cell has any 'list' app, that's easiest. Some people track via cash, loading a set amount in a series of small jars/glasses atop the fridge. Have to take set sums for each expense and most important put the receipts back in the specific jar are very refreshing, PB sandwiches, pita stuffed with whatever you'll eat, small tortilla for wrap with lettuce base and any cheese + deli style sliced, processed meat you'll eat, stuffed celery sticks, mini carrots & dip, breakfast bars or breakfast [oatmeal raison] oversize cookies. Quinoa salad is really good for travel, nuts are easy, dried fruit and nut style trail mix.

    sorry, computer is losing sentences.

trying to suggest some ideas for snacks that travel well if you have a cooler or insulated lunch container. We freeze bottles of water to help keep items cold. cut up squares of cantaloupe or melon are refreshing...

I like Mint.com to track spending. Very easy to link numerous accounts. You do have to reclassify things to put them in the correct category, but I have found it to be a very helpful, eye opening tool.
