Awesome Deal on Scott Products this week at CVS!

December 30th, 2016 at 11:01 pm

Since I moved to my small town in 2014 I have been living off my stockpile and have not had to buy any TP or paper towels (amongst other stockpile items). We finally ran out of paper towels this week and are on our last pack of TP....so time to find a deal!

I found this great deal at CVS, paired with an additional $4 back from Checkout 51 app and final price is only .25 per double roll of TP and .58 per mega roll of paper towels. This deal is only good until closing on Saturday so hurry in!!

Also I used a CVS giftcard that I received free from my Discover Cashback Rewards, so it was all actually FREE!!!!!

Checkout 51 and Raise Apps!

December 30th, 2016 at 09:54 pm

I just started using two new (to me) money saving apps!

Checkout 51

Checkout 51 offers you cash back when you purchase specific grocery and household items, even beer! I downloaded the app a few days ago, and already made $4.50 on items I was purchasing anyways! Once you earn $20 in your online account, you can then cash out either via paper check or Paypal account. I am loving it so far! By stacking this with existing sales and coupons you can get some crazy good deals!!

Raise

Raise is an app to buy and sell giftcards. At this time I don't have any giftcards that I want to sell, but they offer GC discounted up to 17.2% for purchase right now! I am not sure how deep the discounts go, but this is a GREAT way to get instant savings if you know you are shopping at a specific store, you can save money before you even hit the aisles! Tons of popular shopping and eating destinations including CVS, Target and McDonalds!!! I have not made a purchase from them yet, but plan to soon!!

52 Week Savings Challenge 2016/2017

December 26th, 2016 at 04:51 am

Today is the last Sunday of the year, so for those of us that did the 52 Week Challenge, that means your last $52 deposit for the year! We finished ours pretty early this year, so had the $1378 sitting waiting for a plan. We still don't have any plans for this money, so we added a bit more to it to get it to a nice even amount of $1400 and for now are just setting it aside. We also had a good stash of cash to start the 2017 Challenge. We were able to pay weeks 1-8 plus 50-52, $188 already! So a very good start for next year!

If you did the 52 Week Challenge what are you using your final pot for????

Giftcard Inventory

December 26th, 2016 at 03:38 am

Time to see where we are for giftcards. I have been using a lot lately, got a book from Barnes and Noble, icecream at Cold Stone and 4 pairs of new pants, a planner, and some Christmas gifts at Walmart.

We got a lot of new ones too. MO got $500 in Visa GC for a Christmas gift from his employer!

I checked some of our Visa/MasterCard GC that we received last year, and I found out that after 12 months of not using them you get a $2 per month inactivity fee. We haven't gotten any fees yet and to make sure we don't get any we will be using them for fuel, and everytime we fill fuel with a GC, we will then do a transfer for the same amount from checking to savings. That way we will actually see the benefit of the GC since we don't have any tangible or large purchases that we are needing right now.

Debt Update 12/23/16 More OT updates and Blizzard on its way

December 23rd, 2016 at 08:56 pm

Back on the sad update week, $288.38 down in the last 2 weeks!

My work has now opened up Saturdays and the 2 holiday days up for OT in January in addition to the already unlimited OT during the week. For the holidays that means we are already getting paid for the day for 8 hrs for holiday pay and then any hrs I work will be paid in addition to the 8 I already automatically get paid for. I will definitely be cashing in on both of these as well as doing about 4 hrs on Saturday mornings when I am normally just bumming around the house anyways....might as well step away from the TV and into my office and get some work done! I'm excited at the progress this may provide us in paying for bills we would normally be taking out of savings. We were already able to cover the $2500 insurance bill for our 2 rental properties without taking any out of savings. We have a $2300 property tax bill due in Feb for one of the rentals and I think we can definitely use the OT pay to cover that as well and leave savings untouched!

I have the entire next week off! I am so excited!! No big plans....putting away Christmas presents and decorations, cleaning out the fridge, working out, resting up for the crazy OT in January. Only one more day till relaxation!

Weather is expected to get really bad the next few days here (so right over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day) and is expected to be blizzarding with no travel advised by Christmas evening....which is a bummer because we have to drive 1 hr away for the holidays and will probably have to leave early to get back safely. We shall see how it goes!

$20K Update - Passed $8K and OT is paying off!

December 17th, 2016 at 06:20 pm

I have been working about 15hrs a week OT every week since October, and while we haven't been putting much extra INTO savings, we have been able to pay for some big bills that we normally would have to take out of savings for. We had a $2500 bill for our home insurance for our 2 rental properties. The bill was due in early November, so we paid it on our Discover Card to earn Cashback Rewards, a month later the bill is due, and with all my OT pay we are actually able to cover it without taking anything out of savings!!! This is a huge win!! We should also be able to cover all of Christmas as well as a big order of staples we need (TP, papertowels, dogfood, etc.).

We already got an email that OT will continue in abundance through January and there will be even more hrs available. Not sure how many more I could do without getting burned out, but as long as it is being offered I will be doing my best to make some extra $$$!

Personal Shopping!

December 4th, 2016 at 07:56 pm

I had my first "personal shopping" experience! Back in October I sold a "The Nightmare Before Christmas" Tshirt to a Mom whose little girl LOVES Jack from TNBC. She was so excited for the shirt! This weekend I was at the mall in my home town, an hr away from the town I live in. I was picking up a few Christmas gifts and I also getting my biyearly cleaning on one of my necklaces. While I was waiting for my necklace to get cleaned I went into Hot Topic to check out their clearance and found these 2 super cute TNBC Hairbrushes on clearance, plus the clearance was BOGO Free! So I took a pic of them and messaged that customer if she would like them and she said yes so I picked them up for her and made a little profit! I was excited that I could make the sale before I committed to the purchase! Also when I dropped off the hairbrushes this morning the little girl was wearing the shirt they got from me in October. Smile

TNBC Hairbrushes (2)
Regular Price $7.50 each
-$2.51 Clearance Price Each
-$4.99 BOGO Free
Final Price = $2.66 Each after tax!
*ETA - Sold for $5.00 each as PS on 12/4/16
Profit = $4.69

An "Interesting" Thanksgiving and other November Musings

December 2nd, 2016 at 12:47 am

We hosted Thanksgiving and had 22 people to our house, all 20 that were invited were from out of town and we were so happy with the turnout. Unfortunately we had a somewhat comical series of events. My Mom came up the day before to help me with some last minute cleaning and prep for cooking and she stayed the night. The next morning we put up the Christmas decorations and started getting the food ready, my Dad and Step Mom came and started helping MO with the turkey. Right around then my Mom started feeling terribly sick. Thinking she was worn out from cleaning, cooking, decorating, I told her to go lay down as the rest of the guests wouldn't be there for an hour or so. She went to lay down and then I was told the turkey was too big for the deep fryer . This is an hr before we are supposed to be sitting down to dinner. So they keep messing with the turkey, then one of my aunts comes a little early to help out, she goes in the house then comes out and tells me I better go check on my Mom cause she is not doing good. I go check on her and she is in so much pain she can't even speak other then to say she needs to go to the hospital. I live in a teeny tiny (3000 residents) town and we only have one place to go with a one room ER. I get her out to the driveway just as 3 cars full of people are pulling up my driveway! I yell sorry we have to go and tell them to go inside and MO and Step Mom are now in charge of Thanksgiving. We go to the ER and after about 2 1/2hrs of tests and pain meds she is diagnosed with kidney stones. My Mom has had 3 children with no epidural and she said she would rather have another baby any day then go through that again! Luckily they were able to give her some excellent drugs so that she could be comfortable after that and we were able to go home and eat. Everyone else was done eating by the time we got back, I was happy they were able to get the turkey cooked and we were then able to enjoy some quality time with out family! It all ended up ok, but was an interesting hosting experience! My Mom had surgery today for the kidney stones so she can get back to normal.

My paychecks have been amazing with the OT and I am going to keep working 15hrs a week as long as I don't get burned out. MO has started coaching season for girls Bball so he is very busy as well. We had to pay $2500 worth of yearly insurance our 2 rental houses, so my OT is mostly going towards that right now so that we don't have to take so much out of savings to cover the bill.

I am so loving having a clean house and all the Christmas decorations up. I have about 30% of my presents done and I think will get another good chunk done this weekend.

Our weather has been nuts the past few days. In 3 days we got 20+ inches of snow and now that dang wind is blowing it everywhere! I haven't left the house in 6 days and plan to stay hunkered here at least till the weekend. So thankful we have a snowblower! MO has pulled more people out of the ditch then I can count and also had to pick up many of his employees to drive them to work. School was closed for 3 days, but is back in session today.

Hope everyone had a good holiday and is staying safe and warm!!

$20K Challenge

December 2nd, 2016 at 12:45 am

I forgot to do the even out amount for interest in October! Some nice steps in the right direction here for savings. Since we have no vaca or casino trips planned for the next 4 months I am hoping we can make some serious strides in savings! We have to pay the $2500 for our home insurance for our 2 rental properties in the next 3 weeks, I am hoping between my OT pay and the rent overage for December, ($1000, which I will not be putting into savings) we won't have to take too terrible much out of savings. But any amount less then $2500 is a win!

Still no plans for what to do with the 2016 52 week challenge money. Just holding on to it for now and getting ready to start 2017!
