Finished Going through Dresser #3

October 1st, 2012 at 12:30 am

I finished the 3rd of my 4 dressers. Here are the before and after pictures.

Before

After

I sold that big old CD player at the last rummage sale for $5.00. The CD player only worked once in awhile and it was so big and took up so much room. I am going to ask for a nice little one for Christmas.

I finished going through the drawers as well.

Couple Little Money Makers

September 30th, 2012 at 06:41 pm

Our local bank that carries our checking account offered a $5.00 deposit for using your debit card 5 times in September. I rarely use my debit card except for the ATM since we get cashback with Discover, but I made sure I used it the 5 times this month and am now just waiting for the $5.00 deposit for FREE!
*ETA - I see I did get this $5.00 credit at the end of October! YEAH!

Also I have a credit card with Juniper Bank and I got a flyer in the mail for 5% cash back for October, November, December on purchases. So I called and registered for that. I don't use that card too often, but probably once a month or so.

CVS Deals Week of 9/30/12 - Steal on Pantene!

September 30th, 2012 at 06:18 pm

Ok so here is the deal I was planning to do on the Pantene:

Pantene Shampoo/Conditioner 12.6oz
Regular Price $5.00 each (Buying 8 bottles)
Sale Price 2/$8 ($4.00 each, $32.00 total)
-$16.00 ($4.00 x 4) BOGO Free coupons
*Receive $10 EB for spending $30 on P&G Products
= .75 per bottle!

But here is the deal I acually ended up getting
Regular Price $5.00 each (Buying 8 bottles)
Sale Price 2/$8 ($4.00 each, $32.00 total)
-$27.96 ($6.99 x 4) BOGO Free coupons
*Receive $10 EB for spending $30 on P&G Products
= -5.96

So made $5.96 profit on this deal! The cashier was supposed to ring up my BOGO Free coupons for $4.00 each because that was the price they were on sale for, but she just scanned them instead of entering them, so it took off the "free up to $6.99" price!

I also got Dawn Dish soap for a great price:

Dawn Dish Soap 9oz
Regular Price $1.99
-$1.03 Sale Price
-.75 Coupon
Final Price .21!!

October 2012 Mortgage Payment

September 30th, 2012 at 12:54 am

October 2012 Mortgage Payment

Balance $122,000.00
+$279.58 Interest
+$319.07 Escrow
-$1537.95 Regular Payment
-$1065.70 Principle Payment($40 change)
New Balance $119,995.00

Principle payment was made up of:
$345.00 OT Pay
$15.00 Change
$380.00 Regular Principle Payment
$325.00 Random extra amount to get balance down under $120K!

I probably shouldn't pay this much extra to the mortgage, but I couldn't leave the balance so close to $120K! I just had to get under the barrier! So we may have to take some out of savings to cover this, but I am ok with that, savings is doing good for now so taking out a few hundred will be fine.

Bro is refinancing too :)

September 22nd, 2012 at 03:49 am

Went with my bro and sil to the bank today to see about getting them refinanced. They were in a 30 yr loan for 5.3% and also had a small 2nd mortgage (I think like only $5K or $6K) for 6%. They are going to be able to roll them both together now, and go down to a 15 yr for 2.87%! YEAH!! Happy for my bro and very proud of their credit scores that helped them get that great rate. Now when my Godson turns 18 his parents house will already be paid off. Smile

Rummage Sale Stockpile

September 12th, 2012 at 11:15 pm

We had our "big" rummage sale this weekend, it went great! I will post about that within the next few days. But I wanted to show how I keep organized for the sales.
As soon as I get the items I document them on my blog and also in a notebook I have specifically for my rummage sale purchases.
Then I mark them and put them away in their organized spots.

Here is my closet where I keep my rummage sale stockpile. I have these storage bins labeled for different types of items:
-Lotion
-Make up and Jewelry
-Razors and Shaving Supplies
-Oral Care
-Medicine and Personal Care

Then I also have these boxes to keep organized, so I can just put things right in to the box with like items. I have one for Menards items, one for Staples Items/School Supplies and one for larger CVS items like shampoo, bodywash etc. They are pretty empty right now since we sold a TON at the rummage sale, but I'm sure will have lots more inventory soon! Smile

Cleaned out fridge and microwave

September 5th, 2012 at 01:19 am

Tackled two of my least favorite areas yesteday....the fridge and the microwave. I was pleasantly surprised to find only one thing to throw away in the fridge, a box of Progresso Soup Stalk that was expired. Everything else was still good. Smile Took all the shelves out and wiped everything down and reorganized.
Then tackled the microwave (HATE THAT!). So nice to have them both clean.

Rummage Sale 8/24/12

September 4th, 2012 at 12:52 am

Rummage sale last weekend went well. DH and I made $375, rummage sale as a whole made about $2000. The items we bought to resell did really well. Snacks and the clothes I weeded out of my closet didn't go as well, but next weekend is the big city wide rummage sale and that is the one where I made $400 just in snacks last year, so I expect to make another $400 or so. I am really happy I am making a profit on the items I bought to resell. I put the whole $375 into the EF. Here is the breakdown of the sales.

$20K Update

September 3rd, 2012 at 04:04 pm

Once all the deposit go through I will need to check this and make sure I have all of my numbers correct, but for now this is my best recollection of where we are at.
-We only had $130 at home that I always thought I would put more money into for the mortgage payoff, but it wasn't growing at all so I just put it towards the mortgage for September and deleted that as one of the accounts that we had money saved in.
-Somehow I underestimated our Cruise Account (HSBC account) by $205.00, so I added that to the challenge.
-We had a rummage sale last weekend (I will do a seperate post for that) and did well. Made $376, so transferred $375.00 to EF savings for that.
-DH had a little surprise bonus money, so I spread that between Vegas account (to get it to $3K), the EF (to get it to $2K) and my retirement hold account, to continue to pay back the money I borrowed from that account in June.

Current Balance $21,745.00
-$113.00 to ROTH IRA
-$130.00 to Mortgage Principle for September
+$3.00 Even Out Amount
+$15.07 ING Interest
+$19.93 Even Out Amount
+$70.00 DH bonus to EF
+$160.00 DH bonus to Vegas Account
+$205.00 Correcting HSBC Balance
+$375.00 6/24/12 Rummage Sale to EF
+$400.00 DH bonus to payback retirement hold account (now only owe $200.00 to have this all paid back)

September 3rd, 2012 at 03:40 pm

2010 Balance $9,983.38
2011 Balance $13,322.37
2012 Balance $17,566.74

HSA went down $3000 when I paid DH's medical bills for his knee...so that was a big blow. But at least we had the money in the HSA to pay for it.
On the flip side we got DH's yearly retirement statement and it went up $3760 from my last estimate...so all in all the numbers came out ok.
After all that moving around we are up $95 for the month! Smile
