Roomate moved out! SHOOT!

November 26th, 2017 at 11:47 pm

MO had a young man living in his basement in an extra bedroom when we started dating, then when we got married and moved to our new house, he had moved with us since we have 4 bedrooms and lots of extra room. He paid $400 a month and that extra money went right into savings and was a big help to us. Sadly he has decided to move to CA to live with his GF.....so after 3 1/2 years of the extra money, that is over.

It's a big hit to the finances. We were putting $1300 a month from rent for all of our rentals into savings, so we will have to lower that to $900 and try to continue to work on limited spending (which was going really well till Thanksgiving/Black Friday Shopping went nuts).

On the plus side now we have the 2nd bathroom back and will have another extra bedroom to use for guests or whatever we would like to use it for.

Famous Footwear Deals

November 25th, 2017 at 04:49 pm

I stopped into Famous Footwear on Black Friday to see if I could find some new tennis shoes for myself. I still have $100 in wellness dollars from my work I need to use before the end of the year, so I thought maybe I would use some on shoes since I don't really need anything right now. I didn't find anything for myself, but I did find these great deals in the kids clearance! The entire store was BOGO 50% off, which I was happily surprised applied to clearance as well!!

My total for all 4 pairs was $21.30, if I sell them all for $20 each, profit would be $58.70!!

Boys Sketchers $54.99
Clearanced to $10.00!
Final Price after tax $10.65!!
(Marked $20.00 for rummage sale)
*ETA - Sold for $20.00 on FB on 12/4/17
Profit = $9.35

Girls Nine West Furry Boots $49.99

-50% off
Final Price + Tax = $2.62!!
(Marked $20.00 for rummage sale)
*ETA - Sold on FB for $20.00 on 9/2/18
Profit = $17.38

Girls Circus Brand Boots $49.99
Clearanced to $5.00
Final Price + Tax = $5.33!!
(Marked $20.00 for rummage sale)

Nine West Girls Faux Leather Boots (No reg price on box, but I am guessing $49.99)
Clearance to $5.00
-50% off
Final Price + Tax = $2.62

JCP - $10 off of $10 Coupons

November 24th, 2017 at 03:38 am

We snuck into JCP after Thanksgiving dinner. I didn't expect it to be too busy since it was about 3pm on Thanksgiving.....boy was I wrong! The place was a mad house!

They were giving away coupons that could be $10 off of $10, $100 off of $100, or $500 off of $500 purchase! MO and I each got a $10 off of $10, which we were happy with.

I used mine for a shirt for myself, it was $30 and on sale for $11.99, so just had to pay $1.99.

MO didn't find anything he wanted so we used his for a Christmas gift for his brother, a box of monogrammed handkerchiefs that were $25.00, on sale for $9.99, so the coupon wouldn't work, since it had to be $10, so we threw in a pair of slippers that were on a good sale. So the handkerchiefs were free!

While we were shopping we found 2 more $10 off of $10 that someone had left laying on a display! We used one on a gift for my niece, it was $19.99, so we got it for $9.99, and then the last one we used for 2 pairs of slippers that were normally $22.00, but on sale for $5.00, the math is weird because they were signed (we thought) for $5.00, but I think the sign was wrong/misleading, so they rang up for $7.99. The cashier price adjusted them for us to the $5.00, but then said they couldn't use the coupon....it was very confusing.

Between the 3 pairs of slippers we paid $6.38! So only $2.13 per pair, pretty awesome on $22 slippers!
(Marked $8.00 for rummage sale)
*ETA - Sold 3 for $8.00 each on FB on 11/19/17
Profit = $17.62

Overall we spent $19.13, and saved $123.02!! Awesome!

$20K Update

November 20th, 2017 at 05:11 pm

I won football pics again last week, but I tied with someone, and we also tied on the tie breaker, so I won $30 instead of $60. I have had the most pics right on 4 separate weeks now, 2 I won, 1 I tied with a bunch of people and I lost the tie breaker so won $0, and this last one I tied with 1 person and we tied with the tiebreaker. I had to pay $85 to play, and have won $150 so far! Hopefully I can win once more before the end of the season!

$20K Update

November 17th, 2017 at 02:56 pm

We had to pull money out of savings to start paying for the patio that is being put on Rental #1. It's a smart decision in the long run because it keeps our renters happy (they have already been there over 2 years) and also increases the value of the property, but still stinks to have to take out of savings when we are trying to go up. Also had to pay our Discover bill from Oct which was higher then normal due to Vegas expenses.

I would like to say we will be going up now, but we have to pay for propane for the winter ($1200) and also home insurance on our 3 houses ($2500) so will probably just be fighting to stay above $15K for awhile.

Noted Spending November Update

November 6th, 2017 at 03:34 pm

Well we had a No Spend Day on the 1st and after that.....not so much. We were out of town 3 of the 6 days, so we ate out, which I suppose we could have packed sandwiches or something, but would have been pretty unrealistic for us to not spend some money on food. However the Subway for dinner on 11/3 and the dinner out on 11/5 definitely weren't necessary. I belive we can have a No Spend Day today and tomorrow (Wed I am out of town for Drs. again), which would put us at 3/9 days which seems good to me! Already eye opening how much we spend on convenience food! I decided to bold the transactions that could have been avoided.

11/1 - No Spend Day!
11/2 - $108.49 Fuel for all 3 vehicles
11/3 - $7.07 I had a Drs apt out of town so I got breakfast and coffee.
11/3 - $10.94 National Sandwich Day at Subway, 2 Ft long subs and a drink for dinner
11/4 - $13.34 Out of town for the weekend, picked up lunch on the drive.
11/4 - $24.34 Dinner out of town
11/4 Fuel (don't have the amount yet, the transaction is still pending)
11/5 - $18.27 Breakfast out of town
11/5 - $23.21 Eating out for dinner (LAZY)

$20K Update - November Rent

November 2nd, 2017 at 07:20 pm

We got all but one of our rent checks, so were able to add some to savings, when we get the last check it will go into checking to pay the mortgage payments next week.

I also had a $25 check that I sent to my cousin as a gift when he got married in July. The check was never cashed so in Sept. I messaged his wife to see if they received the check, she confirmed they did receive it and she would get it deposited. I waited another whole month and it still wasn't cashed, so I messaged her again and she said she would take it to the bank the same day. Now it's been about 4 months and the check still hasn't been cashed so I am just going to write it off in my check book and move that money to savings since I already "spent" it. I think 4 months and 2 messages is enough to allow for them to get it cashed. I balance my checkbook regularly, and I never have a balance of less then a couple hundred, so if they do cash it I will be sure to note that and adjust my balance. But for now it can be added to our Gazelle Savings!

Current Balance $16,985.00
+$1300.00 November Rent
+$25.00 Check never cashed
+$50.00 My Payday to Our Savings

Noted Spending November

November 1st, 2017 at 05:02 pm

Alright it is Day 1 of Gazelle Savings!

Having two rental properties, holidays coming up, and normal spending, NO SPEND is not very cohesive for us, so I am going for a Noted Spending November. Trying to track all spending for the month and hopefully keep it to a minimum and savings to a maximum!

Today is a normal work day, this evening MO has basketball and I will work some OT and then plan on watching Game 7 of the World Series. We shouldn't have any spending today!
