Recycling Money

May 30th, 2013 at 02:29 am

We took our pop cans in yesterday, 53 lbs at .45 per pound = $23.85. I took the $23.85 and added $6.15 of my own and put that in the mortgage checking account for Julys payment.

$10.00 Mortgage Checking Balance
+$23.85 Recycling
+$6.15 Even Out Amount
=$40.00 New Balance

I just learned that in California when you are recycling cans and bottles you can get the full deposit refunded to you, as long as the bottles or cans are in lots of under fifty. Although I took in many more than fifty and they counted them and gave me the full redemption value for them. Does your state allow that as well?

It does mean I go a little more often or earlier than normal but getting full redemption, especially when I didn't purchase it, is a nice little hit!

Kristina - No, I live in ND and we don't have anything like that. Shucks!
