Updates on moving prep

February 26th, 2015 at 09:34 pm

The team that BF coaches made it to regionals, so have been very busy traveling around the state to watch their games. Exhausting, but so fun! Tonight is the Regional Championship game, hopefully they win and get to go to State!

Since we have that going on, I haven't made as much progress as I would have liked to on getting things organized for moving...but a little here and there.

I found some more items of XH's cleverly hidden in an old coffee table that we probably never touched in the almost 8 years I have been in the house. I boxed them up and he should be picking it up this weekend.

I listed the coffee table, an old TV stand (like for a box shaped TV), and a lamp on FB to get rid of them as they are in the basement where my renter would be living. The TV stand was picked up right away (I posted for give away), the coffee table is supposed to be picked up Saturday (originally posted for $10, but changed to free as I need it out and it is quite old and a little scratched), and the lamp I sold for $5, it is supposed to be picked up tomorrow. Feels good to get this old junk out!

The bedroom where my roommate will be living is empty except for some rummage sale items in one of the closets. I started posting some of those items on FB last night, and will move everything over to the other extra bedroom this weekend so nothing is in there when he moves in. I had several peanut butter boxes of books from when I was younger, Jr High/HS age books and after a ton of rummage sales they are very picked over and don't move many of them any more, so I am trying to sell them by the box rather then individually. I posted about 5-6 boxes of books on FB last night, so hopefully someone is interested, otherwise will just put them in the closet till the next rummage sale. They are moving closer to the donation pile.

I texted roommate and he isn't sure on the exact date that he will be moving in, as he is busy with work. He offered to pay all of March rent even though he can't move in completely for a few weeks. I told him that is not neccessary, we can just prorate for whenever he moves in.

So goals for this weekend:
*Buy door knobs with key locks for my bedroom and study at my house, as well as my office up at BF's house (work requires we are able to lock the room when we WAH due to HIPAA).

*Make keys for roommate, house key and mail key. Also make extra keys for my car as I don't have a spare currently.

*Finish moving anything remaining in basement out of way for roommate (it is all cleaned, just a few items need to be moved).

*Clean up garage so roommate has room to park.

*Start packing what I can that can be moved now....first goal is stockpile of toiletries as I shouldn't need those.

$20K Update

February 23rd, 2015 at 04:01 pm

I had to take money of savings to cover all the fuel costs, and also other general overspending. The last 2 weeks I have been filling gas almost everyday or everyother day. Frown Thank goodness I am moving soon so I can stop this fuel bill and also the wear on my vehicle from so many miles! The next 2 weeks are going to be terrible as well as BF's basketball team has made it to regionals and I want to go watch their games, which are all 90 minutes away. Booooo!

Current Balance $28,200.00
-$1000.00 To Checking to cover bills
+$25.00 BF Payday to Joint Savings
Balance $27,225.00

Local Savings $2155.00

My BF is a better shopper then me...........

February 21st, 2015 at 09:45 pm

So....I think I am a pretty bada** shopper....but my BF put me to shame yesterday...

His town has an Alco, which is going out of business (All Alcos are closing). He took this haul on their last day..

$582.76 worth of merchandise....he paid .83! YES! .83 cents TOTAL for alllll of this! He got 13 pairs of shorts, 5 pairs of sandals, 9 pairs of socks, 1 dress shirt and a couch cover. I am keeping 2 pairs of the shorts, the shirt and one pair of sandals. BF is keeping the couch cover. I will sell the rest for him. Looking at a profit of about $225.00 or so...WOW he sure made me look like an amateur...lol

*ETA - After seeing the comments I went back and added the breakdown! Yes I couldn't believe it either when he called me! I have the receipts but they are confusing to read because it just rang up the sale prices, not the original prices, but here is what it was.

9 of the shorts were $24.99
4 of the shorts were $34.00
Socks were $12.99 per pair
*ETA - Sold 3 prs of socks for a deal price of 3/$10.00 on FB on 11/2/15
Sandals were $14.99 per pair
Couch Seat Cover was $24.99 (I think)
Shirt was $12.99
*ETA - Sold 2 prs of shorts for $12.00 each on FB on 6/17/15
*ETA - Sold 1 pr of shorts for $10.00 on FB on 6/17/15
*ETA - Sold 1 pr of shorts for $8.00 on FB on 6/24/18
*ETA - Sold 1 pr of shorts for $8.00 on FB on 7/15/18

The only reason I know the original price of the items is because of the tags, the receipt reads like such:

Sandals $9.98
-$1.98 Item Discount
-$7.98 COB D D4
Final Price = .02!!
*ETA - Sold 1 for $5.00 on FB on 5/22/17

So everything came out to just pennies a piece....BF said everything was 99% off! His original total (he did 2 purchases) was $24 something, then they entered the discounts and told him he owed .24!! He said he saw someone with an overflowing cart pay $1.26!! If I was there you can guarantee I would have bought everything there!!

Here is the bottom of his second receipt where it says 99% off!

Sweet Clearance Deal at Hot Topic!

February 21st, 2015 at 09:31 pm

Was at the mall with BF and decided to do a spin through Hot Topic (not normally my style, but they have Little Mermaid stuff sometimes that is cute). I found the clearance section and they had a BOGO 50% off on their clearance...I found these 2 bras, both were $3.00. So one would be $3.00 and one would be $1.50. Awesome deal! But when I checked out, they ended up having not been labeled correctly....they were both $1.00! So the 2nd one ended up being .50!! Savings of $58.25!!!

2 bras for only .75 each!! I marked them for $12.00 each for rummage sale and I already sold one today!

Black bra with Silver Hearts
Regular Price $29.50
My Price = .75
*ETA - Sold on FB for $12.00 on 2/21/15
Profit = $11.25!!

Feeling Productive!

February 17th, 2015 at 04:03 pm

Feeling good about getting things done already for the big move! Yesterday was day 1 of planning and I am off to a good start!

*Called and cancelled gym membership, I just need to stop there on my way home and sign that I am cancelling. (Savings of $25 per month)

*I made a rental agreement for me and my roommate to sign. Included info for no smoking, no pets, use of rooms, garage (including a cavaet for rummage sale time), rent, utilities, snow removal and lawn care, and end of rental agreement info.

*I forgot to mention, but I filed my taxes last weekend, on 2/8/15, so should have my refund soon.

Plans for this week:
-Sell lots on FB as BF works all weekend, so a good time to get my inventory down before I move
-Go through fridge (which is essentially empty), pantry, and freezer and see what I have to get eaten. The less I have to pack and move the better. So trying to get through as much as I can. There will be a lock down on eating out and buying groceries as I have TONS in my pantry and freezer.
-Clean up garage and laundry room. These are the only areas that need to be cleaned up before roommate moves in. Neither should take very long.
-Move rummage sale items from roommates room to other extra bedroom. (just some items in the closet that need to be moved)

I have a roomate! And I'm Moving!

February 16th, 2015 at 12:39 am

On Monday my boss gave me the good news.....I have been approved to move to work at home (WAH)!! This means I can keep my current job, and move to live with BF!!(He lives a little over an hr away from me currently) Ohhhhh emmmm geeee! So excited!!! I waited all week (TORTURE) to tell BF, so that I could tell him on Valentines Day! I got balloons and made signs and surprised him after he was done coaching out of town so he was totally not expecting anything, it went great and he is so, so happy!

Wow so much to say! So much to do!

Sooooo.....lots and lots of things to do and changes happening!

It will likely be about 1-2 months before I will actually be working from home, still a few things to pass through budgeting dept. Which is actually good since I have so much to do before then!

BF's friend has decided to move into the basement. YEAH! I am working on getting a lease together and also need to do some cleaning up in the garage but otherwise ready. He will be moving in in March. He will be paying $600 a month in rent.

I have a gazillion things to do with getting BF's house ready for me to move in and the office (currently a guest room for him) ready with cleaning it out, and getting a chair and desk. Then for my house, for now it is fine, but will need to be packing and moving things up. Eventually I want to rent the whole house (I would guess in a year or so) and my roommate is aware of this and that I would be renting only the basement for a limited time, then he would have the option of renting the whole house, finding a roommate, or moving out. I need to do several repairs and updates before it would be ready to rent the whole house, so I am super happy that I will have a roommate income of $600 per month while I am moving and getting the upstairs ready to rent.

This will be sooooo many money savers for both me and BF!
#1 - FUEL!!!!
#2 - BF gets a $300 per month allowance for groceries, and any leftover rolls to the next month. This is definitely more then enough to cover all of our groceries per month, so shouldn't have any grocery bill at all.
#3 - I am cancelling my gym membership ($25 per month).
#4 - My roommate's rent money will go towards my mortgage payment and we haven't worked out all the details yet, but I will be paying something towards BFs mortgage. That will be saving us both money as I will be paying less overall then I pay now for my mortgage and he will have some help from me for his payment.
#5 - I will be able to put in LOTS more OT once I am WAH as my office has limited hours but when WAH I can come in earlier, stay later, and also work on the weekends if I want to. So that will e some great extra $$.

There will be lots more money savers once I have my whole house rented, but for now these will be great changes!

SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 Possible Roomates!

February 7th, 2015 at 06:16 pm

I finally put pics of my basement up on FB and I have 4 people already that want to come look at it! YEAH! So the one that is most promising is a good friend of my BF. They play on the same bball and softball team. He is very nice and laid back and doesn't drink at all, he also owns his own business and travels a lot for that, so I think this could be a great fit! He is coming tomorrow to see it, fingers crossed!

$20K Update

February 6th, 2015 at 09:31 pm

I checked my Capital 360 account today and see that my total of all of my accounts was only $35 away from $25K after BF's Payday deposit....so I tossed another $35 in there.

I had to pay my Property Taxes, $2309.00, so I took $2300.00 out of savings to cover that. I was planning on paying this with my credit card so that I get my rewards, plus get an extra month of interest on the money in savings, but I forgot if you pay with a CC they charge you a $50+ convenience fee! UGH! So definitely not doing that. I did save $116 for paying now in one lump sum rather then paying in 2 payments.

My first ever handpay!!

February 2nd, 2015 at 04:09 pm

This weekend BF and I went to visit his Mom, she lives about 2 hours away. The town she lives in had a casino so after lunch we stopped there for a few hrs. I had by far the best casino night of my life! I won $819 betting .90 on a penny machine! I was so excited! Since I then had a little seed money (that put my ahead about $600) I decided I could bet a little bit more....I bet $3.70 (max bet) for 2 spins....the 2nd spin I hit the bonus and won 330 free spins!! Very shortly into the free spins I retriggered the bonus for another 200 free spins!! I ended up at $2575!! I have never ever had a handpay in my life, I was ecstatic!

About 2 hrs later, I was playing a different game and got the bonus betting $3.00 and won $1511! WHAT?! I have never had a handpay before and then had 2 in 1 night!! Such a crazy night!! After playing for about 13hrs, tips and drinks, I went home up $3800. Smile YEAH!!

I gave $800 to BF, $1000 to the mortgage and $2000 to savings since I have to pay my property taxes this week. So excited!!!
