Debt Update - 8/2/19

August 9th, 2019 at 01:22 pm

This update is a whole week late, but I have been swamped and am just squeezing in a few minutes to get it posted. I have been covering for a coworker who is out and it's been totally nuts.....unfortunately that also coincided with the first week with the new baby puppy! And since I work from home it's been a tornado around here! She is our 3rd girl and she is adjusting really well, but no matter how good they are, puppies are a lot of work! Love her to pieces already and our 2 other girls are having fun playing with her.

One of my softball teams won a state championship and one of MO's teams won a roughrider championship (consolation bracket champ)! This is my 2nd state championship and it was very exciting!

We have been doing good with cash flowing some bigger expenses even though we did have to take some money out of savings for medical/dental bills and also for the new puppy. Will have more bills coming up for her when it is time for her to get spade.

We are also really making it our mission to get the debt below the next $1000 mark every 2 weeks, so we threw another extra $200 on Rental #1's mortgage this time. MO has always been on board with paying off the debt, but I really see his interest peek when he gets to go in and pays an extra couple hundred dollars and actually sees the balance go down right at that moment when he gets his receipt. It helps him a lot to visually see that progress instead of just a "never ending" amortization spreadsheet.

Savings is at $15,300. We do have some cash "savings" that isn't accounted for anywhere right now. That may go towards rental updates or may go into savings.

Celebrations for this update:

$20K Update - Great Weekend!

July 31st, 2019 at 11:23 am

Just a little update today, but maybe a bigger update coming soon. We had a great weekend with one of my softball teams winning a state title! I also got to have lunch with my BFF who I don't get to see too often, and we went to the casino and won again! We've been on a roll lately with casino visits and have $1600 in winnings that we haven't done anything with yet. We may put in savings or we may use some to pay our propane bill and some rental repair bills. Either way it's sure nice to have those extra funds!

$20K Update - Scratch Ticket left at rental

July 23rd, 2019 at 08:51 am

We have had a number of renter changes in the last few months and while cleaning out one of them I found an Iowa Scratch Ticket in the cupboard. IA is many states away from us and we don't have scratch tickets here so I wasn't too familiar with it, but it looked like it was a $20 winner. I figured it was worth the cost of a stamp to check it out, so I sent it in....a few weeks later I got a check for $20.00! Sweet!

Savings did take a big dip due to medical/dental expenses, a new puppy we are getting in a few weeks (YEAH!!!)and making an extra $250.00 payment on the Mortgage for Rental #1.

Overall still doing good. Also we have met our deductible now for the year for medical, so expenses on that side should slow down.

Debt Update 7/19/19

July 22nd, 2019 at 03:34 pm

Nice update with payments on everything except the Mom Loan!

We have a new renter going into Rental #2 and everything went very smoothly with the last one moving out which is a relief. We also got all of the apartments that we property manage rented as of 8/1 which is great! Hopefully things can calm down for awhile now on the rentals front.

Savings is at $17,700.00, BUT we need to take some out for a new puppy we are getting in a few weeks (#3!) and other bills that came up, will probably go down $2K-$3K. I also got my 401K Statement in the mail today and I am at $83K! I also have $10K in an IRA that I haven't contributed to in about 5 years. Happy with where I am at retirement wise for 35 y/o and will keep plugging away at that.

Donations for fire victims - Couponing to the Rescue!

July 19th, 2019 at 09:26 am

There was a large apartment fire in my home town this last week. Over 40 apartments were destroyed and the occupants displaced. Thankfully no one was hurt, and from what I have heard most of the pets were also saved.

There is a hotel right next to the apartment building and they set up a homebase there to collect donation items.

I had my 9 year old nephew over at my house and I had him help me shop through my store for items to donate. We were able to fill a big box with new items to help, bags of socks, shoes, depends, many boxes of toothpaste, dental floss, baby toys, baby wash, and a canvas bag. A friend of mine picked up donations from our small town and took them down to donate.

I am so glad that couponing gives me the opportunity to be able to help. I had never had to deal with the devastation of a fire and hope these small donations can help bring some kind of comfort for the victims at this time. I am also very thankful for the opportunity to teach my nephew about giving back. He is a very smart and sweet boy and he really enjoyed helping me pack up the items.
