2019 Goal Progress - Quarter #1

March 29th, 2019 at 08:57 pm

Goals for 2019 are going good so far.

Savings Goals for 2019:
*Pay in cash for vacation to Laughlin - Goal Met
*Pay medical bills as they come and don't take on any new debt for medical - As of now goal met.
*Still have total savings at/above $5000 at the end of the year (Currently at $16,800)

I've also acquired a lot more inventory for my selling which I look at as a type of savings account too. Most items I get I sell within a month or two at most (unless they are seasonal/holiday, in which case they would be held till the next year), but obviously there are some items that take longer to sell, especially if I have a lot of them, and I typically always buy multiples of items if it is an option. This week I sold 30+ items that I just got, so within a week they were sold, but I also sold 3 items that I got in 2014! So it's a constant stream of income and though I don't want items to sit, the more items I have stocked, the more future income I have as well.

Debt Goals for 2019 were just to make minimum payment and not accrue any new debt since we are dealing with all the medical issues. We are exceeding that already, so far for 2019 we have paid $490.37 in extra principle payments to mortgages.

I also had a health goal to lose 40lbs this year, I am currently down 27lbs. Would like to be down 30lbs by the time we go to Vegas in May. Going on vaca and being sick for over 3 weeks now have definitely killed my weightloss and exercise. I did go to the Dr. yesterday finally and got meds so hopefully I will be better soon and can get back to working out.

We also have yard and home maintenance goals for this year, we haven't started on those yet due to weather. But we have started making plans.

Saving Money on Medical Bills

March 29th, 2019 at 07:39 pm

MO and I have a lot of medical expenses. I have a nice little system in place to save money on medical bills.

First: I have an HSA so the money we use to pay the medical bills is tax free and comes right out of my paycheck, so we never miss it.

Second: I pay my medical bills right away to avoid any fees, and also my main provider offers a prompt pay discount of 10% on many services if you pay in the first billing period.

Third: I pay the bill with my Discover Card to get 1% back, and then just reimburse myself (for free) from my HSA.

So the last bill we got for MO was $276.88.
I called and paid right away (Saved $27.69 (10%) with the prompt pay discount).
I used my Discover to pay it (Earned $2.77 (1%) in Cashback Rewards).
And then reimbursed myself with the tax free funds in the HSA (I am not sure how to calculate the tax savings?)
That equals $30.46 + Tax Free Savings, just on this one bill, and we didn't even need to do anything other then pay smart to get those savings!

The 1% back doesn't seem like a lot, but our Cashback Bonus is now over $1000 and that is free money, just for using our Discover Card when we pay for things we were going to buy anyways!

Hope those tips help anyone with medical bills!

A cold AND food poisoning.....seriously!?

March 12th, 2019 at 08:36 pm

MO has been dealing with a "Man Cold" for a week or so and I was doing my best to avoid it.....but it found me. I've had symptoms for a few days but yesterday was the first day I started really feeling sick. I never sleep well since we lost the babies and the night before I was laying there till 5am..UGH! So last night I took a sleeping pill so I could get some rest and fight this cold. So I fall asleep pretty quickly, but wake up with terrible stomach cramps and lucky me I have food poisoning! Thankfully I was able to make it to the garbage can, I haven't thrown up since morning sickness and that is one thing I don't miss!! I took a shower, brushed my teeth and went back to bed. I think what made me sick was I had a few pieces of Fontina Cheese as a snack before bed. I normally use it in cooked dishes, like brussel sprouts, but just thought I would slice off a few pieces and eat it with some sandwich meat as a small snack. If you've never had Fontina, it is a soft cheese, like Blue Cheese. So that is my best bet as to what made me sick. Feeling better from that today, but cold symptoms are still here and I need to get better because we go to Laughlin for vaca in 6 days!! At least hubby is on the mend now so that's good that one of us can take care of the other...lol.
