Newtopia Wellness Program

July 22nd, 2013 at 03:20 am

I received an email at work that they are offering a new program to the first 500 employees that sign up. It is called Newtopia and it is to increase wellness (my work is very big on the health and wellness of their employees). I signed up for the program right away. It is completely free as my employer is paying for the entire cost of the program, when I registed it showed the cost for the year is over $1200! It is $99.00 a month plus the cost of the supplies, and for me it is FREE! YEAH! A healthcoach will be contacting me soon to help me set up and reach my goals. I got a box in the mail yesterday with my start up supplies including a large canister of whey protein, a fancy pedometer that sends your results to them electronically, a measuring tape and a saliva test that I send back to them so they can give me an initial assessment of different levels (cholestorol etc, I believe).
They also emailed me some smoothie recipes for the protein. Today I went to the grocery store and got some fruit, flaxseed, orange juice and almond milk to use for the smoothies. I plan on having them for breakfast as I am really bad at skipping breakfast. I made one tonight and it is chillin in the freezer for now.
Also I think I forgot to mention on here, but I am not eating fast food for 30 days. I started that on 7/14/13. I already lost 3lbs! It's not much, but it's a start!

It sounds like a win-win-win situation. Your health gets better, your company gets their insurance premiums lowered, and Newtopia makes a profit.

Sounds like a terrific opportunity to focus on your good health. I'm enough of a cynic to wonder what information is revealed by saliva testing like alcohol and drug usage. After the 1st year, are you obligated to continue with the programs at your own expense? [$ 99. per mo]

snafu - Good point on the alcohol/drug screening....I personally would not have any issue with them screening for that, but that is an interesting question...though I would think they would be required to discose that. As far as having to pay for the program after the inital year, I was wondering about that as well, but I did read the fine print when I signed up and didn't see anything that indicated you were required to continue after the initial year. I am going to look into it for sure though, just in case I missed something.

Yeah, I would hope that information would be protected by HIPPA? If so, it's a great opportunity.m

If you have Netflix watch Forks over Knives, Fat Sick and Nearly Dead and Veducated. Also try Food Inc on Amazon. Great movies!
