Discover and Coke Rewards

July 14th, 2012 at 01:29 pm

I haven't cashed in my Discover Rewards for awhile. I checked my balance and had $188.00 available! So I used $45 to get a $50 CVS giftcard. I think I will see if DH wants to pick something for himself for some of the rest of the balance.

Also got my free Olympic Tshirt from Coke. I just entered my points a few days ago....That was fast!

Cleaning/Purging/Organizing - Starting the bedroom closet

July 10th, 2012 at 02:39 am

I added a new catagory to my blog today. "Cleaning/Purging/Organizing"

Lately I have been spending a lot of time at a friends house that runs a very small daycare from home. The house is crazyness. Every inch is packed with toys, clothes, craft/art supplies and misc everything. It drives me NUTS when I am there cause I just want to organize the crap out of it....it's near hoarders status (without the dirtyness of it). So it has really got it in my head about organizing and having too much stuff. I normally do pretty good with purging things as I like to constantly be weeding out for the rummage sale and throw things away pretty quickly once their worth is gone. But I could always do better and have been feeling overwhelmed with the amount of stuff in our house lately. So I am going to try to go room by room, drawer by drawer, closet by closet to get rid of things, rediscover the forgotten, and organize and clean my home!

I actually tried to start this a few weeks ago, but I already know it's going to be a very long process as I want to do it right and completely. So I started with one of the fullest places in the house...My closet. I took all of my tank tops out of my closet and tried on every single one....then a few weeks later I did this with my nice shirts. Very exhausting!! Once I had gone through them all I folded them all neatly and put them back in color coded rows (DORK ALERT!). I already have a whole shelf cleared off just from doing those.

Here is what I ended up with so far
-------------Keep---Sell------------------------------
Tanktops------96-----12-------------------------------
Shirts--------61-----23-------------------------------
Totals-----157-----35--------------------------

Sick how much clothes I have...and that doesn't count the T-shirts, long sleeves, cardigans, hoodies, sweaters, or any of my hanging clothes..etc
So that is where I am at. Already have 35 items to get rid of at the next rummage sale.

Next I am going to tackle my shorts since it is hot as heck here and I need to see what I have to wear!

Coke Rewards

July 9th, 2012 at 04:12 am

I haven't entered my coke rewards points online in a long time. I finally got around to entering them today and have 117 pts to spend. I also had a promo code and got a free Coca-Cola Olympic Games T-shirt. I didn't realize before that I could also enter the codes from Powerades, and we drink those a lot, so I will have to start entering those codes as well. If I'm gonna drink the stuff regardless I might as well get a little something back!

If you have coke points you want to enter for free or reduced products go to mycokerewards.com.

Target shopping

July 9th, 2012 at 02:36 am

I am way behind on my Target/Menards/CVS posts since we had those vacations. Trying to get caught up.
Last week I had a coupon from Target for FREE Dozen Eggs...so I redeemed that. Smile

Today I had a coupon for FREE Liter of Pepsi product and also a coupon for $2.00 off a $5.00 purchase of any Up and Up products.

So I got a 2 liter of Mt Dew, a box of 100 sandwich bags, and a box of 40 gallon storage bags, all for $5.50!

They recently remodeled my local Target and now have a lot more produce and groceries. Hopefully they keep sending out these great "FREE" coupons!

All goals have been met for the year....please let me know your thoughts

July 8th, 2012 at 10:36 pm

OK please weigh in and let me know what you think.

We have met all of our goals for the year (see left side of screen). It shows the cushion still not met, but I put $10 a week towards that and only have about $40 left, so it will be met very soon.

So my question is now that we have met all of the goals for the year...Should we:

A) Set some new/additional goals
-Beefing up the EF
-Beefing up the new car fund
-Saving for specific home improvements (We NEED a new patio door, new garage door...we WANT to put in a sprinkler system...and our AC is on the fritz)

or

B) Since we've met all the goals for the year, put all extra funds to the mortgage, and use the existing savings for the above projects as needed. Then make new savings goals for 2013 and start saving again then.

The reason I want to even look at option B is because as many of you may know....there is ALWAYS something to save for! And now seemed like a good time to break from savings and make a dent in the mortgage since we surpassed the $20K challenge and are nearly to $25K (not counting retirement or our HSA).

Please let me know any thoughts you have as any extra input or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you!

$20K Update and BIG CASINO WIN!

July 4th, 2012 at 02:30 am

Well a week after we got back from the cruise we flew to Wendover, Nevada to go on a casino getaway with my aunt and uncle. Everyone did great on the slots. We had this great win of $1,071.30!! My husband also did really well on roulette and we ended up coming home up $1200! The money we took with was the money for May's mortgage payment that we didn't have to pay since we refinanced...so it was all extra money. So I saved $500 for this next weekend when FIL is in town, and have $2200 for savings!! I put $1400 in the EF to meet that goal for the year and the other $800 into Home Improvements as we are planning on getting a sprinkler system put in soon.

Free Storage Shelves!!

June 12th, 2012 at 02:00 am

Went for a walk with DH yesterday and found a storage shelf on the curb for giveaway! I have been wanting one of these for some time to store some of our food and drink surplus.
So I moved all of the rummage sale pop and juice in there. Moved all our Powerades (bought on super sale for .68 each!) cause they were stuck in every cupboard in the kitchen. Also had a surplus of mandarin oranges and Ragu Marinara Sauce that I moved in there. On the top I have the extra dish soap. Now I have more room in our regular cupboards to keep everything nice and organized and not too crowded. Also still have tons of room on the my new shelves for stocking up on super deals!

-$1537.95 Regular Payment
-$273.88 Principle Payment($150 change, $15 recycling)
New Balance $126,550.00

We didn't have to pay the mortgage in April or May due to the refinance. April's $1500 I put in savings for a new car. May's $1500 I have saved for a trip we are taking at the end of June, and anything we bring back from that $1500 will go into the EF.

I am thinking for the summer we will just be paying an extra $100 to principle, plus any change we have. Money is just too tight in the summer to put too much extra to the house. Glad to be going back down again!

June 3rd, 2012 at 01:15 am

Well this will probably be the last update going up in awhile. During the summer DH makes much less ($1800 a month less!) so we will not be making deposits into savings unless it is unexpected monies (BD money, rummage sale, recycling etc). We just try to make it through without taking too much out of savings and planning ahead as best we can. I have to take $2K out of savings in the next week or two for our spending money for our anniversary cruise.

We did meet the goal for the Sept 2012 savings!

Current Balance $23,145.00
+$140.00 to Sept 2012 Savings
+$250.00 to Home Improvements
+$130.00 Rummage Sale Money to EF
+$11.95 ING Interest
+$23.05 ING Even Out Amount
New Balance $23,700.00

Bingo Money (cash) $1620.00
ING $19,555.00 ($4000.00 Bingo Money)
Mortgage Payoff $130.00
Home Improvements(cash)$370.00
HSBC $2,025.00
Total = $23,700.00

Bingo Money
Tips total - $2006.61
Wage total - $3617.32
Total Bingo Money - $5623.93

Biggest Loser - Finale - I won!

May 26th, 2012 at 02:40 am

We had our final weigh in for the Biggest Loser and I won! I did so good this time losing 10lbs during the contest and am down 26lbs total.
I won $50 which I added to the $50 I won from a previous BL and don't know what I'm going to use it for yet.
Gotta a lot of "eating" things coming up...graduations, vacations etc..need to keep my head in the game so I don't gain back any weight and keep going in the right direction.
