Wisdom Teeth are gone!

February 24th, 2010 at 06:36 pm

So I am sitting here with the ice packs on my face.....I am so glad this is over! The total came to $1507 - with any luck my medical will cover some since one of the teeth was bony impacted. I will post for the $20K Challenge when I am more coherent to do the math!

I need to get 2 removed...does it hurt? Do they put you under?

Gamecock, go to an oral surgeon. They will put you completely under!

Wow! I thought extractions were about the cheapest dental procedure there is. $1507!!! Was it because of the bone involvement? Hope you have zero pain in healing.

Take care of yourself. Did you ask about a discount for full cash payment?

Agreed, gamecock, go to an oral surgeon, you will be put under, wake up thinking only minutes have gone by. They give paid meds to take after! Smile

    Owie! Take it easy...

It seems to me obvious that a tooth extraction with full on anesthesia/surgeon would cost more than most typical dental work.

My older daughters had all 4 taken out and it was at least that much each time, actually I think closer to $2000.00 each. They were quite sick afterwards so for you to sit up and post, I am impressed. Glad it went well.

I had 3 wisdom teeth removed in 1997 while fully under. I had had the other one removed in 1990 with only a local anesthetic. I have to say the fully under part made a huge difference in my anxiety. Because all 3 teeth were impacted and nonerupted, I was able to get my dental and medical insurance to pay for all but $160 of it. If this had not been the case, my dental insurance would have covered part of it, but not the medical. If I remember right, the full cost was over $1000. Thank goodness for insurance that day. Without it, I probably would have had to ask my mom for the money.
