$20K Update

May 21st, 2013 at 02:06 pm

Well we were naughty....DH is approaching the end of the school year (4 more school days!) and has been very antsy (if you think your kids are bad, you should see the teachers!)...and it has been raining here for 5 days straight...I just had to get out of the house. We went to the casino, which we should not have done since we are going to Deadwood at the end of May...and we got our butts kicked. DOH! But in the interest of being honest and holding myself accountable, I gotta put the numbers out here. You know, I really do think my blog helps us save so much...cause all I was thinking when we were losing was "Oh man, I have to share this on my blog, how embarassing!" :P

Current Balance $28,885.00
-$370.00 Casino Losers
New Balance $28,515.00

ING $25,760.00 ($5620.00 Bingo Money)
Home Improvements(cash)$680.00
HSBC $2075.00
Total = $28,515.00

    I wonder how much Casino entertainment is worth to you? Would you find it tolerable to set a spend limit? For example take $ 350. or $ 200. or whatever sum you spend/ budget on entertainment. When that sum + winnings is gone - it's gone and the end of that entertainment. Friends who like the VLT machines here set an entertainment sum for the evening but always pocket winnings. They seem to return home with close to the sum they started.

    Well, hopefully you had a good time. I happen to love casinos! But the last time we went, my husband and I only allowed ourselves to spend $40 each. Not very much...but we still had a good time. Smile

    Know EXACTLY what you mean about teachers being as/more antsy as the students. Both my DDs are teachers.

    DD2 finishes about the 29th and new grand is due 6/29.
    DD1 finishes about a week later.

    We do have set limits, and "Usually" come home even or only down a little, occasionally ahead. Gambling is one of our main forms of entertainment...somehow 2 incredibly cheap people, who both love to gamble, found each other Wink

    Our system is to bring a set amount, and then we take turns picking games. We almost always play together, we put $10 into the machine and if we get to $20 or more then we cash that out, and that goes in the "winner pocket" and goes home. That way we are sure to always have something to bring home. Sometimes we save $100 or more till the end and "go big" on that, betting higher hoping to get a big win.

    It's a very odd hobby for cheapskates like us...we are an oxymoron. Smile
