2013 Rummage Sale Breakdown for the BIG ONE!

September 21st, 2013 at 09:13 pm

We had a few issues this year with the weather not cooperating (rained almost all day Saturday which would normally be my best day for snacks) but still did great in sales. DH and I made $916.00. We kept out $100.00 and put the rest in the mortgage checking account for Octobers Principle Payment.
I made some changes to snacks and added little bags of chips for .50 each and I also bought brand name Coke and Diet Coke because so many people were requesting it. I charged .50 for the generic pop and .75 for the Brand name, which still came out to a similar profit of .35 - .40 profit per can, depending on what kind of deal I got when I purchased it. House feels a LOT lighter with over $1300 less merchandise in it over the course of 2 weeks!

Here is the breakdown:
$4.00 Misc Science supplies from DHs classroom
$1.00 Clothes my step-mom didn't want to store/mark
$5.50 Clothes my cousin didn't want to store
$8.25 Clothes my Moms friend didn't want to store/mark

Great job!! How many hours do you think you spent accumulating, working, pricing and recording to earn those dollars?

I would estimate an hr or less a week for shopping/pricing/recording. I always mark and put everything away right away when I get home, so that way I don't have to have it be a big task when it is time for the sales. I get home, photograph it for my blog, write it in my sales book (date, original price, my price), then tag it and put it away. I don't want things laying around the house, so best to get them documented and put away immediatley. The actual sale is usually 3 days, about 12 hrs a day. It is definitely gruelling! And then after the sale, it probable takes me about 3-4 hours of concentrated work to go through my sales pages, update my sales book with what was sold, and then go through my blog and post this entry.

Great!! What about anything you purchased that did not get sold?

I am almost done going through the remaining items. Most will be kept for next year's sale. I weeded out a few items to donate, and also marked down the price on a medium size box of items. A few things that had expiration dates I donated to family members.
