$20K Update - HSA is officially empty

March 15th, 2018 at 03:09 pm

Things are going good here. We got away for the weekend and went to the casino with some friends and my Aunt Lori (shout out!), MO did great again, he has been so lucky this year! We will save the winners from there for our Laughlin trip in April.

I have a ton of medical apts, so those are keeping me busy as most of them are 5 hrs away from home, so I am putting in some major miles. We had to prepay a $4000 medical bill and also pay $4000 in Rx bills, so our HSA is now completely empty. I am sad to see that savings gone, but am happy I had saved it up for so many years so we had it to use now and didn't have to pay that $8000 OOP. Any new bills we will have to pay OOP, so we will keep trying to bulk up savings as best we can to stay on top of those bills.

Current Balance $20,225.00
+$50.00 MO Payday to Our Savings (3/16)
+$5.95 Interest to Cap360
+$14.05 Even Out Amount
+$10.00 Mortgage Savings
Balance $20,305.00

Local Savings $6100.00
GC Savings $3180.00
Capital 360 Savings (US) $4890.00

Hoping everything goes well for you! Is it 5 hours round trip or one way? The driving isn't a problem?

~$8K via HSA? Do you not have medical insurance?

DH - It’s 5 hrs each way. So a lot of the time we have to get a hotel room in addition to all the gas, food, and medical costs.

Out of the Dark - Yes I have medical insurance, our deductible is a family ded of $3750. Then coverage at 90%. We had to prepay $4000 for an upcoming surgery. So my ded will be met by the time I have the surgery and possibly we will get some refund. (Hopefully!!)

Out of Dark....many employers have high deductible plans that coincide with HSAs. My family deductible for 2018 is about $4000. Then amounts are paid at 90% as well. I have quite a few medical expenses and will be likely clearing out our HSA this year also. Healthcare costs are being passed hard to employees these days Frown

That's a long trip. Safe journey as you travel and wait in those uncomfortable chairs in the waiting rooms.

    rob - Thanks!

Glad you stay in a hotel overnight on those trips. Safe travels and best of luck to you!
